To be anointed with the oil of a shofar carries a great symbolic significance. It is used to commission and consecrate a person into the ministry of Praise and Worship particularly. It can be used for many reasons but we see in the Bible that this was the main purpose. There were two men who were mentioned in the scriptures as being anointed with the oil of a shofar. This was King David and his son Solomon.
I Sam. 16:1 “And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.”
I Sam. 16:13 “Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.”
I Kings 1:39 “And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save King Solomon.”
