Description
Balm of Gilead.
Jeremiah 8:22 “Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?”
Jeremiah 46:11 “Go up to Gilead and obtain balm”
What is the ancient biblical Balm of Gilead? Gilead is a mountainous region east of the Jordon River, at the south end of the Sea of Galilee, and to the north end of the Dead Sea. It is rich in rain fall and is a thickly wooded area. Gilead was known for the rich healing gums and resins that were acquired from its trees and plant life. Tradesmen and merchants traveled to Gilead to purchase these healing balms, resins, spices, and barks.
Genesis 37:25 Gilead was known as a place where people could come to receive physical healing. Balsam trees grew by the water of the Jordon River. When the leaves of the Balsam would fall a new sprout or bud would appear full of gum sap. In this sap is a healing agent which was processed with olive oil and beeswax. It was used as a prescription that was taken internally or applied externally, to the skin.
James 5:14 “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of The Lord.”
The word anointing here, in the Strongs Concordance is the word Aleipho, (#218) To rub, to cover over from the word Liparos, (#3045) meaning a fat or greasy substance as in ointment. The Elders were called. They massaged or rubbed the balm of Gilead on the person as they prayed over him or her. Therefore, two elements are in place. The supernatural, which are the prayers and the natural, which is oil or ointment. The Balm of Gilead is made from Balm of Gilead buds, olive oil, and beeswax, all 100% natural ingredients ,no perfumes added, creating a balm or salve that is smeared or rubbed upon the person seeking to be healed.
This can be applied to open sores or scrapes. The healing properties that are in the oil and the resin from the buds and the natural bees wax makes for a very wonderful healing product. We do recommend that a person apply it to their skin first to make sure they don’t have any allergies before putting it on a burn or open sore or wound.
